udevd problem when booting

Hi,I updated my Slackware 12.2 's kernel headers& when i rebooted my system goes waiting during boot saying
Code:
Starting udevd:/sbin/udevd --daemon
I removed execute permission from rc.udev
Code:
chmod 644 <mount point>/etc/rc.d/rc.udev
it booted comletely but then i couldn't access Internet, mouse & sound drivers are not working

I found that i had 2 udev entries namely
Code:
/etc/rc.d/rc.udev

/etc/rc.d/rc.udev.new
help
