Resolved

Turns out the problem I was having happened in IceWM. In either Gnome or KDE, sound was there with flashplayer 7, albeit a second or two after the action and often disjointed and halting.

With Flashplayer 9 though, all these problems have been resolved. Sound works perfectly with flashplayer 9 in Firefox and is synced with action in Gnome, KDE and IceWM.

My solution (slack 10.2)

This got it working:

cd /dev
./MAKEDEV audio
vi /etc/group

audio::17:my_user_account,and_my_other_user_accoun t,tertiary_account_too...

log out of X, and back in... and *poof* Strongbad can talk.

(If that doesn't make sense... get Mepis or something that will work out of the box.)

Thumbs up Awesome!

Sweet! Thanks so much kc9asi! I was lucky this forum came up first in google; don't know how long I would've spent going over lousy solutions otherwise!

Wow!

I just checked this post, and since its inception, it has been viewed to this point, 41,773 times! I'm sure it doesn't have the most views of all the threads on Linuxforums, but it's got to be in the top 10 I think...
