Slackware packages

After i made a slack package and installed it...should'n i be able to run it from the run command?
I installed firestarter but i am unable to run it.Is it because it's not designed for slack?Or what?Is there another way to run the installed packages?

I don't know what command to run from terminal...i know it sounds stupid but i don't

i tried with nohup and

"nohup: appending output to `nohup.out'
nohup: cannot run command `kfilecoder': No such file or directory
"

but i installed the package...100% sure

whats the name of the package.. look in /var/log/packages for it

look inside that file and it'll show what the name of the executable is .. /usr/local/bin/program , or similar.

type that at the console, you dont want to use nohup

Why no nohup?
What is the problem...i'm a noob and i must learn so....

An example of a nonworking package is firestarter-1.0.3-i386.tgz made by myself after i made configure and make, i made the package....but it won't work

And in usr/local/bin there isn't it's name and with program it won't open...

got it but when i try to run the package

root@home:/var/log/packages# /var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 1: PACKAGE: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 2: COMPRESSED: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 3: UNCOMPRESSED: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 4: PACKAGE: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 5: PACKAGE: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 6: FILE: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 7: ./: is a directory
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 8: po/: No such file or directory
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 9: po/zh_CN.po: No such file or directory
......................

/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 192: pixmaps/Makefile.in: No such file or directory
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 193: ChangeLog: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 194: COPYING: command not found
/var/log/packages/firestarter-1.0.3-i386: line 195: CREDITS: command not found

why that?
could it be because of the i386?

why are you trying to run the package info file?

/var/log/packages is for package files, when you install a package the package file goes in there, do not play with it.

you should be running /usr/local/bin/executablename.

... May I recommend ubuntu 6.0.6?

http://www.linuxpackages.net/search_...arter&ver=10.2

why are you bothering to compile and make the packages yourself when there are premade ones to download and install?
