    slackware 12 + gnome

    I'm currently running slackware 11 with dropline gnome 2.16. I was wondering if i was to do a fresh install of slackware 12 would i be able to use the old version of dropline or would i be able to just download and compile with garnome from gnome.org? dropline is currently only beta right now and i really dont want beta software on my daily use system and i find it hard to live without gnome as my desktop enviroment or would it just be better to stick with what i have now and wait a couple months till a stable release?

    Two ways to look at it...

    Chances are even though Dropline for 12 is Beta, I would doubt you'd run into anything other than slight irritations at worst, and with updates, those irritations and bugs will go away. On the other hand, what is a few months if you are concerned about it?

    I've never tried installing Gnome desktop from scratch for Slackware, but I have for Crux and it was a holy nightmare for me. I never did get it fully functional. I personally would be afraid of trying to build Gnome that way.

    I really can't imagine running into any really horrible problems with the Dropline Beta. Besides, if you do, you can always run KDE. Just my opinion though.

    Sam as you, i was trying to build gnome from source for Slackware 12.0 and it was more than a terrible experience .
    I managed to build KDE and xfce , but never gnome.

    For Dropline gnome 2.18.3 for Slackware 12.0 , it's quite stable and i didn't have a serious problem until know.
