Why are all multimedia players in Slackware copying the file into my home directory when I play one? Is there any way to get them not to?...

the media players comes with slack are amarok and audacious , and both shouldn't copy multimedia files to your home directory , it never happened to me i believe you mean by creating something like a cache file in your home directory starting with .xxxxx , this is normal if it's your case , it's just to let the media player to find easily the location of you media instead of scanning folders each time you run the software .
please let me know if this is your case

    Regards
