dualboot XP do I need to install lilo to the MBR? I tried installing it to the root system, but when restarting the system it told me there was no boot cd and that the filesystem was not specified. so install to MBR?

Yes. Install lilo in MBR only and it will setup dual boot itself.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

ok thanks, i just did this, and i rebooted, it had the same error then went into lilo.i restarted again and there was no error. thanks
