Slackware and HAL Not Working
So, this is the epic slackware and HAL problem, where hal won't let me mount drives like the cd drives or even my hard drive, but I followed the instructions to fix it by adding myself to all the groups, and restarting hal, but it didn't work. Does anyone know how to fix it? If it helps to know I am using root user.

Are you sure you are in the plugdev group? I'm pretty sure that should do it.
You might have to restart dbus, and then hal.oz

hmmm, no, I'm in plugdev, so I'm not sure why it isn't working, I'm in all the required groups.

I think we need a little more detail before anyone can help you. Can you answer these:
How do you try to mount devices? Is this a fresh install? Are you in X? Is udev running? Can you mount manually? Did you set up fstab? Can't tell an OS by it's GUI
