    Slackware 10 on Laptop


    I installed Slackware on my desktop at home with no problems at all. I then installed it on my Toshiba Laptop and still no problems except no mouse. After reading some posts I figured out how to get the mouse working. with the on board pad on the laptop. It works good sometimes but sometimes it jumps around kind of sparatic. I plugged a optical USB mouse in and it moves but is not usable. I can't figure out how to configure two mice.(The one on the laptop itself and the USB optical) I suppose I could do without the USB if I had to but I really need to fix the onboard.

    Follow-up

    In X I found something usefull
    >K(main menu)> control center>KDE components>KDE performance

    There is a button for not reducing memory. It was defaulted to "file browsing only" I switched it to never and the laptop mouse works fine. no more jumping around.

    Still having problems with the usb opticle mouse.

    i got the same prob with my laptop how did u even get your mouse to move and when u installed slackware and it asked u for the mouse what did u chose

    Hi Neil,
    I am at work and don't have my laptop in front of me. I will post a copy of my file so you can copy it.
    But for now in essence I just changed my mouse config to
    /dev/input/mouse from /dev/mouse in my mouse configuration of the X file.

    I am sorry I don't remember the name of the file off hand because they changed it in v-10. I will clear it up when I get my laptop. I know the file is in /etc/X11 and it s called org(something).config.

    that should get the mouse moving if not stay tuned and I will post my whole file.

    What kind of laptop are you installing Slack and what version did you install?

    Here you go!
    file is in
    /etc/X11
    its is called
    xorg.conf.
    I suggest backup original file
    cp xorg.conf xorg.conf.orig
    then edit xorg.conf
    if you make a mistake then do
    cp xorg.conf.org xorg.conf
    this will rewrite the file back to original then you can start over.
    (I am assuming you are somewhat new ignore the backup stuff if you already know that.)
    Here is a copy of my file keep in mind I only got the laptop mouse to work. the USB works but not well enough to use.
    (You might be able to cut and paste )
    Let me know it this works for you.

    Based on your posted xorg.conf, it seems you haven't run xorgconfig and xorgsetup.

    You need to run that first, and then manually edit the xorg.conf as below (It works for me):
