mine goes down to a manual power down. It won't shut my computer down all the way. I thought this was normal for Slackware. If someone knows different that would be helpfull.

Before I switched to a graphical login system, I used 'shutdown -h' at the prompt and when it said 'Power Down' I just waited a few seconds and turned it off.

Mine will sit in power down mode all night long and won't power down unless I hit the power button.

Mine did the same thing. It would reach the "Power Down" point and just stay there until I manually hit the switch.
Then, the last time I re-installed Slack, I decided to install the bareacpi.i kernel package instead of bare.i. Now, no matter how I give the shutdown command, it shuts down correctly.
Check to see if your bios is acpi enabled. If so, you will need the bareacpi.i kernel package for software shutdown.OH NOOOOO!!!!!! You did it the way I said?

Well, my distro just gives the "Power down. " message and sits there until I press the turn off button. I used bare.i for my kernel though, I'll try using bareacpi.i instead. Thanks for the info, it is not a problem if it doesn't shut down by itself but it is becoming boring to hold the button for ~4 seconds until it does so

I have changed the kernel to bareacpi.i and it still wouldn't shut down, but it wouldn't boot either (LILO says Loading Slackware ....... and screen just goes black). Anyway, I restored the old kernel (bare.i) and I won't play with it anymore

Unless it is in two different places. It is already uncommented by default.
