Why to config LILO to be able to load Vista Recovery Console?
Greetings,
I have a laptop with dual OS of Vista and Slackware, loading with LILO. Recently there's some problem with Vista loading after some updates. Tried to get into Vista recovery console by pressing "F8" during startup but to no avail, as after which it immediately loads LILO instead of recovery console.
So what should I do to enter Vista Recovery Console?

Try using the dvd you installed vista with if you have it. If you upgraded or it's custom built, you have one. Dell includes these or you may have to order one. Many pcs only come with recovery dvds; try this but you may not have success. Borrow a vista dvd from a friend or download an iso from a torrent. It's likely legal as long as you don't install windows anew with the iso. Or, of course, buy an oem vista install dvd. That is about $120. You must boot from this iso dvd into the recovery console. Good luck.

F8 doesn't work because Windows Boot Loader has been replaced with Lilo in MBR and none of Windows OS option will work now. You have to re-install Windows Boot Loader.
Install Windows Boot Loader, fix Windows OS problem and re-install Lilo.
Follow instructions from here to re-install Windows Boot Loader. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
