    java issue

    hello i am running a slackware 12 variant backtrack3 that i have 20 gigs worth installed to a toshiba laptop hardrive it works fine except for i cant get java to work.
    i have installed the packages from the slackware site openjre and openjdk latest but
    no program reconiges my java installls. firefox says java is not eneabled when i go to ssee if its in on in the browser its on. all programs with java are not running and alot of apps i use use java.

    do i need to get an older version of jre and jdk?

    Maybe you can try installing JRE straight from the source. Thats how I got it to work.

    I have good experience installing Suns rpm files with:
    rpm2tgz *rpm&&rm *rpm&&installpkg *tgz
    Can't tell an OS by it's GUI
