The Slackware Essentials ebook has some good howto articles for package management in Slackware:

    Slackware Package Management

    pkgtool
    is a popular option.

Forgot to mention that some alternatives do exist if you'd prefer to use one of them:

The slackware package is not called firmware-ralink. They've split up the firmware into specific packages. You have what, the 2870?

    rt2870-firmware
