The standard package tools don't download anything. Slackware doesn't come standard with a package manager that is able to do that. However, there are a few tools which can take care of the job:
- slackpkg
- slapt-get
- swaret
- etc.
I would advice you to use one that comes in the /extra dir of Slackware. I don't use any other package manager then pkgtool (pkgtool, installpkg, upgradepkg, removepkg) . There are backsides using an automated solution, there are advantages as well. I choose not to use automated tools, I update manually.I\'m so tired .....

slapt-get is my favorite... works almost exactly the same as apt-get

Is there a synaptic front end? If so, let me guess... Slack-naptic?
