    Slackware sound problem

I have had another go at Slackware. Installed 14.1 yesterday and has gone quite well this time, have most of the application I regularly use up and running and I am very happy.

I am however having a few problems, the main one is sound related.

    This is what is happening:

    1. If I restart the machine I have no sound, and the alsamixer command is not found. Youtube video's crash after a few seconds and tracks on spotify won't play, the progress bar just doesn't move.

    2. If I run sudo chmod -R a+rwX /dev/snd I can use alsamixer, sound is back and youtube video's play without crashing. Spotify still not working.

    3. Log out and back in and Spotify works.

    4. Restart machine and everything stops working again

This seems to be a permission issue, anybody got any ideas how I can fix this?

    Thanks for the reply.

I figured it out, had to add user to audio group. Didn't even know it existed.

So another small annoying problem I am having is I get the below error on logging in:

    Invalid option - session

Any ideas? Is there a log I can check to which might shed light on what's causing this?

Solved. Something to do with desktop wallpaper. I changed it back to default, logged out and in and no error.

Then changed back to my preferred wallpaper, logged in and no error.

Holidays are a good time for tinkering = )

You probably want your user in the following groups by default:

users lp floppy audio video cdrom plugdev power netdev scanner

You probably missed this during install.
