You are running as root, never run X as root.

There is an xorg configuration tool that will set up the xorg.conf file for you, which is your problem right now. Try the command "xorg -configure". Also as Segfault said, don't run startx as root. You can, but it is not recommended. Some systems will not allow it.

Modern X does not need generating conf. To load nvidia blob a four-line conf file is needed, and that's it.

This is what the nVidia installation set up in my xorg.conf file:
    Code:
    Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier "layout"
        Screen 0 "nvidia"
        Inactive "intel"
    EndSection

    Section "Device"
        Identifier "intel"
        Driver "modesetting"
        BusID "PCI:0@0:2:0"
        Option "AccelMethod" "None"
    EndSection

    Section "Screen"
        Identifier "intel"
        Device "intel"
    EndSection

    Section "Device"
        Identifier "nvidia"
        Driver "nvidia"
        BusID "PCI:1@0:0:0"
        Option "ConstrainCursor" "off"
    EndSection

    Section "Screen"
        Identifier "nvidia"
        Device "nvidia"
        Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration" "on"
        Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "CRT"
    EndSection

If so, please edit it for me.

It seems ok to me, at least to my limited knowledge. So, as a non-root user, run startx and post the errors here (again).
