    Slack specific ATI Radeon xorg.conf help.

    Suggests to me I should not mess about too much with xorg.conf without knowing what im doing.

    I know its a Radeon Mobility 16mB. With that lspci output im guessing its a M6 chipset (god knows what the LY is??)

    I upgraded to version 4.2.0. Older versions may also work.
    Simply use xf86config4 to configure /etc/X11/XF86config. Sax2 has crashed my laptop.
    Choose "ATI rage 128 as your card.

    Rage128 is confusing me....

    Im guessing I need the actual drivers before i start messing about with xorg.conf.

    This does not inspire confidence.

    Hmmmmm.

    Is there some sort of generic driver out there??

    Having googled a bit im guessing ATI < Nvidia with regards to linix.

    Could some one please give me some pointers here or point me in the direction of a good, consice guide??

    Some drivers do come with xorg, and some of them accutually work fine.

    Other drivers can be found at card manufacturers web sites.

    From your post i don't know if X work or not but u can try to play with it, just make the backup of one that works.

    First of all with my xorg i can use two prebuilt drivers "ati" for older cards and "radeon" for newer ones R8500

    Basicly u play with the following section:
    Code:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "ATI Rage 128"
    Driver "ati"
    EndSection
    Indentifier is just a string u will use later in section "Screen".
    Driver can be changed to "ati" or "radeon" i your case, i don't really know in wich does your card belong

    Then in section screen u can put that from linux-laptops

    Also avoid using "dri" and "GLcore" they are probably going to freeze X.

    U can also check "man xorg.conf"....
