Ok new to Linux....trying to get K3B installed on Slackware 10.1. So I head over to www.k3b.org and navagate to the downloads page...and AH-HA they have a Slackware 10.1 package ...

    K3B installation problem....silly Im sure

    Ok new to Linux....trying to get K3B installed on Slackware 10.1. So I head over to www.k3b.org and navagate to the downloads page...and AH-HA they have a Slackware 10.1 package there. Too easy?

    So I go ahead and download. And run this....and this is what it spit out.

    So I am assuming this would make a directory within the directory I had this .tgz file....but it didn't.
    So if it didnt extract the files to a folder named *something to do with k3b...blahblahblah* where the hell to I go to run the

    Im lost here...but like I said Im new at this. Im sure the answer is simple.

    It's much simpler than that. It can be installed by typing: installpkg k3b-0.11.23-i486-1pcx.tgz

    tgz files are package files and can be installed using installpkg.

    So I am assuming this would make a directory within the directory I had this .tgz file....but it didn't.
    Of course it didn't. k3b-0.11.23-i486-1pcx.tgz is a pre-compiled binary package for Slackware. It is not a source tarball.
    Do what retired1af said and just install it.
