lilo is corrupted!
i run a dual boot system, winxp/slack10, and i was doin somethin in linux and had to reboot. but when it was time for lilo to pop up, i just got a whole bunch of 01's. I assume lilo got corrupted. the only thing i knew how to do was clear the MBR with a winxp disk and now it only boots winxp. how can i reinstall lilo without reinstalling linux or windows. I have a knoppix disk if that is helpful in any way. much thanks.

I don't know much about LiLo, I am a GRUB guy myself.
I did manage to find this site using Google though.

I hope you can get Slack up and running again. I remember what it feels like to have to use just Windows. How to know if you are a geek.

MikeSome people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

i tried that site. it didnt work. i booted w/ the slack install disk. i ran pkgtools and reinstalled lilo there. it got lilo back on the disk. i could boot linux then. but i couldnt access my file system b/c of problems/inconsistencies in it. so i booted w/ the boot floppy and ran e2fsck to correct it and now it works perfectly again!
thanks for pointing me too that site budman, it got me on the right track.
