Read it from the man himself: http://www.slackware.com/changelog/current.php?cpu=i386
There are some alternatives for gnome on Slackware. Dropline is well known but intrusive. See what Pat has to say about it in that changelog.
The way gnome was implemented in the last couple of Slackware releases it won't be a loss, I found it rather poor and incomplete.I\'m so tired .....

I think it's a good thing Gnome was removed. There are lots of other environments you could try .

No
GNOME wasn't removed from Slackware 10.1 (or i'm living an illusion). It's gonna be out in Slack 10.2.

Re: No
That's right, but the gnome version that comes with 10.1 is basicly the same version then on 10.0.

Yeah, i don't use GNOME as well, but i sometimes like using Nautilus for file manager.
Primarily i use Xfce with rox for desktop rendering and file management. And it's great.
Flux is cool too, it's probably my best alternative.
Thx

If you've ever compiled Gnome from source yourself you can understand why Pat didn't want to bother with it any more.

I think i'll discard GNOME myself and just download parts i need, like nautilus and specific programs from the suite that i use.
