I would say an easier(and better) alternative is GRUB. Of course you'll need to boot into Slack first to get that installed......

Both are perfectly allright and do their jobs well. It is a matter of taste if you want to use grub or lilo. I prefer lilo because I know how it works and there is absolutely no need for me to learn grub.

First know that if you want to install GRUB in is not inclueded in the Slack package so you will need to go to Slack site and download and install.

Several things GRUB does that LILO does not:
The GRUB command shell can find boot images, kernels and root filesystem.
Instead of storing the boot info in the MBR as LILO does it is stored in the filesystem. And to quote the Linux Cookbook "..best of all, GRUB is completely operating system-independent. If you install GRUB into a seperate boot partition, you can remove and reinstall operating systems to your heart's content, without having to reinstall the bootloader every time."

Sounds like you are trying to get out of buying a floppy drive
I would'nt recommend being without floppy capability with this stuff. Those boot floppies and rescue floppies can save the day.

To get grub go here http://slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub....1/extra/grub/

Read this article!!! and you can see why I did'nt write it out for you

ok, so when i get that computer with slack hooked up to the internet, I will get grub, it sounds worth it (especially the part about not having to re-install it every time I mess with an operating system.

No I won't go near the chat stuff. It's too distracting. I'm one of those guys that can't focus with lots of interruptions Be happy to help here however when ever I can.
