Minislack Pauses...
I don't know if this applies to Slackware as well, but I've just installed MiniSlack 1.1 with XFCE. Every few seconds input (keyboard and mouse) freezes for about a quarter of a second then resumes, whether I'm in XFCE or just a tty console.
The only services I have running are hotplug, inetd and syslog. DMA is enabled on /dev/hda and the root partition is EXT3.

do you need hotplug to be running? i would disable that and see if it replicates itself
