Is it a USB keyboard?
Check the BIOS, make sure that USB keyboard is enabled.
Or you could switch it for a PS/2 keyboard for the installation. How to know if you are a geek.
when you respond to "get a life!" with "what's the URL?"

keyboard
I have a usb keyboard and ya gotta make sure its enabled in the BIOS as previously mentioned. I have only been running a week and i know the frustration level. SLack detected mine fine and even set up the Dvorak layout without a hitch.
I suggest you find a good install guide if you dont have the book or are new, like me. i go the book but its not step by step.
