alsa 1.0.9 problem
recently I updated all the systems packages with swaret (on my desktop and on my laptop).
And the same thing hapened in both:
No more sound!! /dev/dsp disapeared!!
On my laptop I even compiled all the alsa packages myself, and the error remained.... HELP!!!!

first things first,
log in as root and go to sound system from the control center, choose ALSA under the hardare detection then apply and try the 'test sound' button - secondly have a look at the permission of your sound device which I believe should be now /dev/snd
secondly, what version do you use? if it's SlackCurrent (10.1) upgrade the kernel to the new linux kernel-2.6.12.3 and that should solve all your problems
