my computer was shutoff and now when i try to boot it says dev/hda1 has errors and restarts when i try to reboot it does it again...

is it running fsck when it reboots? or is it hanging way before that?
you might need a good knoppix cd, or something else that you can boot from to atleast get a loaded kernel so you can un-bork that hard drive.
File system errors are troubling, especially when they come from botched shutdowns or powerfailures. It's not so bad when the inodes are buried in a music file, but when they botch up necessary kernel level things, it gets dicey.Chicks dig giant mechanized war machines
