I need a downloader. I like d4x, but i can't install it on Slack 10.1. And i hate kget.

For FTP, I find wget to be very good if you don't mind CLI.

As bigtomrodney said, try wget. Should be on your system already, and kget is merely a front-end to it AFAIK. I can get download speeds up to 680 KB/s with a good mirror. I do not think it's a problem of kget - it's rather a problem with the site you're downloading from.
