So far as I understand it, if I had the hard drive jumpered as Slave, but connected by itself on the IDE channel, then the machine wouldn't even be able to read the drive. So far as I recall, though, I either have it jumpered for Master or for Cable-select, and that I had double-checked at the time to make sure it was set that way (that is, that I hadn't set it to Slave). In any event, the BIOS screen shows it as the primary drive, and shows the secondary drive as empty (i.e. no drive present). I don't think that result would likely happen if I'd jumpered the drive to Slave.

I give up...
Okay, I've finally given up on using that machine, and have successfully installed SLAMPP onto a different machine...
I am going to figure out some other thing to do with that machine, probably put Windoze on it.
