Help installing soundcard (--->really noob inside<---)

I must admit that I'm really a newbye to linux.
I thought that maybe if someone can teach me how to install only the soundcard, I will begin understanding how this os works and how to install all the other devices.

do the alsaconf in the terminal and it will guide u through the rest

run 'alsaconf' as root
it will probe and setup your card
after that runs (if sucessful)
run 'alsamixer' and set the volumes accordingly, unmute any critical ones that may be muted. press escape to exit back to the terminal
after that - to store the settings, type 'alsactl store' as root
this is all assuming you are using ALSA
