No videos in Mozilla

i cannot get mozilla to display videos. i have tried installing the mplayer plugin but it doesnt seem to work. does mplayer have to be installed to use the plugin etc. i am on 10.1 and mozilla 1.7.5 i got the mplayer plugin from linuxpackages.net. i would appreciate any help.

Yeah, you'll need mplayer installed to use the mplayer-plugin.

got it installed however it still doesnt install work. it goes through a scrolling bar saying its buffering but it doesnt do anything ie doesnt actually play the video.

You could open a terminal, start mozilla in it, and then try playing something to see if it gives you any errors.

Do you have the codecs installed? What type of stream are you trying to view?

yeah you'll need the win32codecs package installed and then you will need to reinstall mplayer and maybe mplayerplug-in.

sometimes its called the essentialcodecs package

i had to install them to get totem to play wmv files which does work. when i view streamed wmv files in mozilla is where i run into problems. how would i go about confirming that mplayer is seeing the codecs?
