    but really, theres no need to stay uber cutting edge hehe, so what if xchat is 2.6.1 and you have 2.6.0 on?

    I wouldn't worry about it you'll find something has been updated, if you're interested enough in the project!

    you could always use *spit* slapt or something

    Good point, if I'm *that* bothered about having the latest versions I'd check anyway, otherwise, not.

    I'll have to make a list of packages I want (I hate having things on my computer which I don't need).

    Maybe so... however, I don't think Slackware was ever intended to be a rolling release as is the case with Arch, so manual labor and and/or tedious as you put it is the only way I know of tracking it without 3rd party software.

    It could be that Patrick will move to automate Slackware package management in the near future, but somehow I doubt it.
