I can make raid.s work all day long. I can not make 2.6 work for some reason. Won't see my Raid. suggestions?

I can make raid.s work all day long. I can not make 2.6 work for some reason. Won't see my Raid. suggestions?
This is what I am working towards:
2.6 SMP with RAID 5.
Got a dual processor IBM server that I can make work on just the raid.s. I must be too much of a n00b to make this work. Assistance would be nice.
