i know dude but THERE IS NO 2.6.18 dir !!!
after i did:
cd /mnt/dvd/testing/packages/linux-2.6.18
installpkg kernel-generic-2.6.18-i486-1.tgz
installpkg kernel-modules-2.6.18-i486-1.tgz
i change lilo to /boot/vmlinuz-generic-2.6.18
and thats all

seems you're right, oh well, guess you are going to have to roll your own kernel and remove those packages - if you want nvidia drivers installed.
me? I gave up using the nvidia drivers, they are a total pain anyway, binary kernel packages for the win
