I actually prefer gnome and I'm using 2.16. I've tried KDE, fluxbox, and XFCE as well but gnome just feels right to me.
Two levels higher than a newb.
(I can search google)

I prefer KDE, although it is probably because (just like Windows), it is what I started using first!
