Can you tell from where you download the gnome package,it's a source code of precompiled or compiled version ?
and also wish version of Slackware you are using ?
about the firefox how did you manage to compile it ?

download slackware packages from linuxpackages.net and install with this command
installpkg pkg.tgz
I have posted links in your other thread, which will clear all your doubts.
kde is good enough

i am running slackware 11.0
i downloaded the gnome from the gnome website
basically if you don't mind, i would like to get my desktop looking like this

You can try other distro's which have gnome.

I you wat to have some nice desktop applets use Superkaramba go to
http://www.linuxpackages.net/ and download it install it using installpkg superkaramba........ and it will appear in the kde menu under utilities-Desktop run it and get new stuff.
