    mouse and keyboard hang after new install


    I have successfuly installed Slack 12 /after a few weeks of errors / and now when i startx and work a while my mouse hangs and doesnt move. After 1-2 min the keyboard hangs too. I changed the protocol of the mouse from auto to "imps/2" amd now i can work around 30-45 mins before it hangs. and the keyboards hang 3-4 min later.

    Any suggestion

    made some changes to kernel to fit my hardware, but i dont think that's the problem. I havet tested if it hang in cosole mode. Maybe it X issue?

    I never saw something like that before ! usually the mouse/keyboard works or no , but hangs after a while this is very strange and i can't tell you more than do you have any other Linux Distro installed in your System ? even a Live CD , because this error makes me crazy

    You know it's really strage to me too. But the strangest thing is that it's PS/2 mouse and keyboard... I had slackware 11 for about a year on this machine but slack 12 is fresh install /i only copied my progz to a cd and now on hdd/. The other strange thing is that when i changed the protocol from Auto to IMPS/2 it worked fine /or at least that's what i was thinking /, and saw that in this forum the same problem but it was from 2004 It was suggested to change the protocol and if that didn't help than to install gnome or sometning that is not KDE... But since this is 3 years later i think that the issue /if there was any/ in KDE is fixed. I have usb cordless keyboard and optical mouse - Logitec, but i have problem with the keyboard, and only the mouse works for now. I tried to use ps/2 keyboard and usb cordless mouse but it's not working...

    I'm really stuck here... i'll try searching the net for a few days and post if i find somthing...

    I have no experience with your problem, and I'm running Kubuntu at the moment...

    But how is your xorg.conf? Can you post the contents?

    Do the appropriate drivers get loaded? What happens if you switch to generic drivers?


    Don't forget to change the default runlevel to 3 if you make changes in xorg.conf, just to be sure... It's pure STRESS to be stuck in X without an input device of some sort, specially if you're sure it's just a typo

    when i use generic driver it works, but slow...
    Everythimg seems to run normal, and i dont have any problems with drivers
