    Use emerald

To get dhcp ip use this command

    dhclient ethx

replace x with the number & to know the number run
    ifconfig -a

    I already told
if you want to play with beryl get sabayon live cd

I am trying to install emerald and it says that package libwnck 1.0 cannot be found but I have it. I have all the dependencies it's asking for but it still wont install. This is a weird program. I also took a look at sabayon and it seems interesting but I cannot start on another disto because today is the day my slackware project is due and I wouldn't have enough time to explore a new distribution but I do appreciate the recommendation tho. I will look into it after I am done with slackware.

i have libwnck, pygtk, pyrex, and pygobject installed as well as the slackx packages that includes the composite extension but for some reason its still asking for the composite extension. I think I have the settings for beryl and emerald set properly but i cant get any of the cube or the other effects to work. I have checked out the beryl forums but i couldnt find anything relevant but I am going to try posting there also.

I have made some progress. I made an entry in Xorg.conf and enabled the extension. when i go into a terminal and type in beryl it shows that all the tests passed and then it goes into the beryl loading screen. after that its all white. no cube, no desktop, nothing. just all white. do you think I messed up on my configuration settings?

i forgot to ask. what directory are the skydome images located?

  8. #17
    run beryl-manager from terminal
You will be able to troubleshoot the error.

Skydome image can be set from beryl-settings

It happened with me as well & I reinstalled slackware.
You can try this ... restart the pc and run beryl-manager. Hope it works

I'll give it a shot, I'll be working on it all day today. Also I can see something, its the outline of the task bar but again its all white and i cant tell what is what. My Linux instructor gave me the odea of trying to install beryl virtually so I will also be trying to get Xen up and running. I'm busically up for any suggestions. I will take care of the skydome images and ren un the manager in the terminal and let you know how things go.

It will not work in virtual machine. You won't get the effects since it will use virtual machine vga driver.
