Hi,
I'm new to Slackware and I'm trying to get my webcam installed (Logitech quickcam)... but I'm not sure how to do so. All of the information I've seen on the web seems very disjoint so I don't know which driver(s) to use, whether I need to recompile the kernel, etc. If someone could tell me where to start, it would help tremendously.
If I need V4L, is it installed by default on my kernel (2.6.21)? How can I check?

Can you post the output from lsusb?
Also important, what application are you using with the camera?
And, what groups are you a member off (You don't need to post this, but check this for yourself nontheless) as webcam problems can be permission related. It could very well be that the device is already working, but your permissions are not set up correctly to use it.

I've added myself to the audio and video groups, but I'm not sure if there are others I should be in (and I've tried as root). This hasn't changed anything that I'm aware of. I've tried using kopete, ekiga, and skype, and all of these say there is no device found.
