slackware 12 smp kernel
Ok quick question. In the offical announcment it's stated "We
recommend using the SMP kernel even on single processor machines if it
will run on them.". Does this cause slowdowns or does it actually speed up a single cpu system? Whenever i compile my kernels i usualy leave smp off on single core systems so this has confused me a little.
i think there is a detection on number of CPUs during initial bootup and so SMP gets disabled even if you compiled SMP into the kernel.
