Sound? What Sound? No Sound!

On this end I have Slackware v13 and a HP G71 laptop.

Using Window$ (which came with the laptop) I have sound but not with the installed Slackware v13.

To get sound, as I understand it, the following needs to be done ...

.1. <root> type in .... alsaconf
.2. <usr> type in .... alsamixer
.3. <usr> type/use MM.mm, which in turn changes settings to "OO" indicating that the channels are now active.
.4. <usr> press Escape
.5. <root> type in ... alsactl store
.6. reboot

After rebooting it is noted that after re-booting the machine confirms the settings just described above are in effect but after starting "x" - still - no sound.
Having done this several times now, making sure I didn't miss a step and still no sound, I ask you, what else has to be done?

lspci

and look for any lines that have anything to do with audio. post those lines here.

Tried to run "lspci" - doesn't work! Also tried "ls pci" and that doesn't work either.

Howevever I did copy the boot up display and anything to do with PCI is shown below.
For now it doesn't make much sense to me. You?

Howdy jay. I run inxi in my installs now. Even in Puppy it works.

Only takes a second to install and gives out a bunch of info. Not trying to butt in really. Just didn't know if anybody was aware of it is all.

To make this post easy. As root

cd /usr/local/bin && wget -Nc smxi.org/inxi && chmod +x inxi

warning: this command won't work in Pardus or Arch Linux. I have this in Ubuntu, Puppy,AntiX, It should work in Slackware also.

After installing just type in
