I used gtkpod for my ipod

Hi slacked... gtkpod is a good option, I've used it myself with my Ipod Nano 3G. Most media players will us the libgpod libraries, which is what gtkpod uses anyway. So check the player before you try "new" options that actually use the same tools (I like the Amarok interface, but it's not exactly lightweight, ahem!)
I personally used Amarok when I had an iPod, it had a nice interface. But like sarlacii said, it's not very lightweight. GTKPod is lightweight and pretty good. I always had trouble with it corrupting my iPod's database though, but that was a few years back, I'm sure it's much better now (especially if you don't use iTunes on your iPod before using GTKPod).
