Upgrading Slackware 12.2
Just for your information, I decided to upgrade my Slackware 12.2. I did:
Unfortunately, the connection went down during the upgrade, leaving me with a system with no internet access, no sound, and no write access to ntfs partitions due to a different kernel. I didn't complete the process not knowing I had to run lilo. That was the trick; running lilo. After restoring from backup and trying it a second time, the upgrade runs lilo, altho not properly. I ran lilo -v. To run it and get the boot sector to my vista bcdedit system (writing to ntfs), I had to boot a Knoppix live cd and run:
mount /dev/sda2 /media/sda2
chroot /media/sda2 lilo -v
dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/media/sdc1/linux.bi count=1 bs=512
Just wanted you to know.
I've only run Slack a bit here and there... so my advice is gonna be minimal.
Can you boot to Slack at all?
If not, can you boot to a LiveCD and try to install Lilo from there?
If not, are there any specific errors that you could post?
It would help get you sorted.
No, everything's fine. I got it working. Sorry to make you think the wrong thing. I just wrote this post because I never saw any information on chroot and wanted to write it down, for your information and mine.
