WD EARS Advanced Format
I recently purchased 1TB WD caviar green advanced format drive.
I would like to find out from those with experience of the procedure of installing both Windows 7 and Slackware 64bit 14.0 dual boot and if there are any of the so called "alignment issues"
These drivers are, I think, using the newer 4kb sector size instead of 512 bytes that older drives provided. The default DOS partition table / MBR size is 512 bytes, and will give you these errors unless you manually align your partitions on 4kb pages. If you don't, it will still work, but it will give you those annoying messages about performance issues caused by the bad alignments... Linux fdisk can also build a newer partition table /MBR structure that should avoid this, but I'm not sure if Windows supports it as yet. I'm still getting up to speed with these changes myself.
