why recomple a kernel ??
Hi all,
I saw a similar post abt recompiling kernel in slackware. My question is that why to recomplie the kernel if it is working correctly.what are the factor that lead to recompile the kernel for ur system . One answer could be :performance factors since compiling kernel as per ur system conf would lever performance benefits ( is this is true ??) . Please anyone put more light on this subject .
One more thing i am enjoying SLACKWARE:)
Thanking in advance

If all is working well, then there is no need to recompile a kernel unless of course you just feel like doing it. Compiling your own kernel means that you can have a small kernel optimised for your hardware and there aren't many unwanted modules or features in your kernel.

True. The only other reason to recompile is if the new kernel version, or the new one of your making, has support options for features that you have a certain need for(usb support, wireless, etc.).

And the third as you said was performance boost up.
