Wireless WMP54G v4.1 dhclient Cannot Get IP
I'm using Slackware 10.1 with kernel 184.108.40.206. I have installed rt61 driver to use with the card.
When I turn on the computer, the rt61 driver is automatically loaded though I'm not sure how.
I type ifconfig ra0 inet to turn on the TCP/IP interface.
I type ifconfig ra0 up set it up for broadcasting.
I then use iwconfig to set the network with iwconfig ra0 essid linksys.
After doing this, I type dhclient ra0. It says, "ra0: not found" and then a long message about how if I didn't get the software from isc, I should go there and read the README before I complain bla bla bla.
When I check the status of the device, I get this information.
Under iwconfig ra0
RT61 Wireless ESSID: "linksys"
Access Point: 00:13:10:3D:BC:92
Bit Rate: 5.5Mb/s
RTS thr: off
Encryption key: off
Link Quality: 40/100
Signal level: -81dBm
Noise level: -111dBm
Rx invalid nwid: 0
Rx invalid crypt: 0
Rx invalid frag: 0
Tx excessive retries: 0
Invalid misc: 0
Missed beacan: 0
Under ifconfig ra0
Link encap: Ethernet
inet6 addr: fe80::216:bbff:fe9a:1466/64
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST
Rx packets: 5855 errors:0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 frame: 0
Tx packets: 241 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 collisions: 1
RX bytes: 498422 (486.7 Kb)
TX bytes: 1416 (1.3 Kb)
From all this, it seems the device should be ready to get an IP, but dhclient says ra0 doesn't exist. In one way it's right because I can't find a device by that name in /dev. How is this possible? Thanks.
