How can I connect my Xp (laptop) to my desktop (dual boot XP and Slackware10.2). will i just connect both computers through their LAN cards using crossover cable? what will be the configuration in the slackware side? coz im gonna try the Services for UNIX by Microsoft

why do you need services for unix if you have the unix box there
use samba
Well, I'm not completely sure, but you could possibly run a DHCP daemon on one of the two machines and connect back and forth via IP.
you wouldn't need to just for a simple crossover connection
just set the IP's of both machines to a static address on the same network
here is the ip that I used for both machines
1st settings
Slackware:
ip add: 10.10.10.2
gateway: 10.10.10.1
netmask: 255.0.0.0
XP
ip add: 10.10.10.3
gateway: 10.10.10.1
subnet: 255.0.0.0
2nd settings
Slackware
ip add: 192.168.0.2
gateway: 192.168.0.1
netmask: 255.255.255.0
XP
ip add: 192.168.0.3
gateway: 192.168.0.1
subnet: 255.255.255.0
i did both setting and I cant seem to ping the XP from the Slack and vice versa. is there something wrong in my settings?
btw i used netconfig in the slack to configure my ip. hope you cna help me guys..

I have no idea why your training company told you not to use samba, you could use ftp, nfs, scp,rsync I guess.
they said that samba is easy to use thats why they tasked me to use the services for unix instead of samba, is there wrong with my ip addresses set in both xp and linux?

maybe it has an NFS client, if so , setting up an NFS export is easy enough

theres nothing wrong with the ip addresses you have already chosen
