super user?

trying to install my vid card driver and it says i have to install as the super-user... im assuming thats the equivalent of admin on windows right? so how do I do that?

Go to a terminal or konsole, then enter:

su
(enter root password when requested)

ok so im following the steps but i got this error: error: C compiler cannot create executables when trying to install wine.9.44



(yes i said vid driver earlier but i started with wine. i need both)

Not sure if this will help, but try using "su -" (with the dash) instead of su.

You can install wine from the installations cd/dvd or from a repoistory via YAST.
I'd recommend getting an official Suse version via a repository or the CD rather then trying to install from source, unless you know what you are doing.

You need to install gcc (the c/c++ compiler) again via Yast, in order to compile the source code. This is not installed by default but it is on the CD or can be installed from a repository. You also need to install the kernel source if you are installing NVIDIA drivers downloaded from the NVIDIA site.

someone in irc told me to use yast to look for wine and install through there but yast couldnt find anything looking like wine. also whats the website for installing the ati drivers?
