Yum, apt-get equivalent in suse

hi all,

I'm coming from ubuntu and fedora background and i'd like to know what
is the equivalent to apt-get install, yum install in suse.
I know that Yast is the gui way, but i'd like to learn to work with the konsole.

If you are using 10.1 the command is rug, if you are using 10.3 the command is zypper.

Most people prefer to replace the default system with Smart Package Manager as it is more like apt-get and when installed from the Guru repositories it comes set up with 3rd repositories for Smart.

If you want a gui package manager the YaST Software Manager is in the default install and Smart comes with it's own GUI.

use what U know

you could always install apt-get (supported up to 10.2 ,not sure about 10.3)

the replacement in 10.3 is zypper

man zypper to find out more information.. It's a pretty good tool.. Novell still needs some tweaking with caching repo data etc, to help speed up the software management.
