Howto: Install And Use Smart On Opensuse 10.3

Hi there!
Anybody know how to install SMART on openSUSE successfully? I have tried over and over again and I can't seem to find the SMART icon on my system.

Cheers!

smartd is a Disk Monitoring Utility. I dont think you need that. If you want to install SMART package manager then execute commands posted in post #3.

smartd is not SMART package manager and dont restart it again n again. I mentioned that in my last post too.
Why didn't you accept smart channel installation?

I think you miss understand what smart is. There is no icon to be found. In A console become root and type smart --gui

This will bring up the GUI. Note you need to be root to run smart.

You could make an icon or menu item but you would need to start root in the command I don't know gnome but in kde it is kdesu

so

kdesu "smart --gui" would ask for the root password before starting.

Though in kde there is a neat applet called KSmartTray. It does the automated period checking to see if new packages are available. It also give a right click menu to start the smart GUI. It is totally much easier to use then Yast. You have much more control.
