my ftp server(vsftpd) is not able to be accessed by clients

my ftp server is not being accessed by clients
.on the system itself (on which i have setup ftp server is) localhost is accessible.
it is connected to the LAN and also showing positive pinging results from clients.
what should i do.??

Have you opened a port for FTP in the firewall?

thanks for replying
yes it was open.
that problem is resolved in between while i was going through the vsftpd.conf file.
but when i checked for /var/ftp directory(which is root directory for anonymous user)it was not there in the system.i created it there manually and also created certain files in it.but still anonymous login is not showing any files (but it is showing that login is done and showing the "ftp://..IP....."

i dont think that anonymous root is any different directory in suse!!!!!!!!!??????
