openSUSE 10.3 "9" issue

Okay, so i tried installing openSUSE 10.3 on my desktop yesterday. It went through the whole GUI installation just as it should, then when the desktop restarted it came up to a screen of 9's oddly sequenced like 99 99 99 99 99 99

i really don't know what happened. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know what it is?

Sounds like the grub bootloader isn't configured properly.

Personally I'd just reinstall and make sure you set the right options on bootloader install.

All of those 9's are a lilo error.
As suggested by Chris, reinstall, making sure that grub is on the MBR.

I agree with the others that a reinstall is probably the best way to fix this, especially considering that openSuse uses GRUB by default, rather than LILO.

If you want to try fixing it as is, take a look at the SuperGRUB LiveCD. It might provide an easy/quick fix:

It might be worth trying to boot from your CD. When you get to the instal screen you can choose boot an existing system. If the system's OK and just grub has a problem you can fix it quite easily in Administrator Settings.
The others are probably right but it could save you a lot of time if there's a small chance that it is just you grub bootloader.
