Root password

Hello guys,

I try to retrive Root password from Suse 10.1 linux machine. I try many difrrent ways from net but no luck. Let me explain where is the problem.

- i'm starting from Suse 10.1 boot CD
- then Resuce System (after while there is red windows telling: Could not find Suse Linux Install Source. Activaitng Manual setup Program),OK
- then chosing lanugage and keyboard
- In the Main menue window I pick up, Start Installation or System,
- then Start Rescue System
- Source media (CD-ROM),
- Automatic DHCP (Yes),

and in the text trybe: Resuce login (root). And when I try to mount drive

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt I've got. (You must specifie the file system type).

When I do:

fdisk -l, it shows:

/dev/hda1* ... f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5 83 Linux
/dec/hda6 82 Linux Swap
/dev/hda7 82 Linux Swap
/dev/hda8 83 Linux
/dev/hda9 83 Linux

Is any thing what could help on this situation.

Thank You

Welcome to the forums!

Check this HowTo for several different ways to reset your root password:

http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/lin...-password.html

The first method is usually the easiest, if it works for you.

Boot up in Single User Mode.
Highlight SuSe title in GRUB Menu, type single and hit Enter key. It will drop you at shell prompt. Execute passwd command and assign new root password.
